Zero Waste Week: Doing My Part for the Planet
Hello everyone!
As of today – the 2nd of September – it’s Zero Waste Week! I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about how I approach waste reduction in my little corner of the world here at Bare Natural. Running a small business comes with a lot of responsibilities, but one of the most important to me is doing my bit to take care of our planet. So, let me share how I’m making sure every little bit counts!
When I first started Bare Natural, I knew I wanted to create products that were not only kind to the skin but also kind to the Earth. Being waste-conscious is at the heart of that mission. Every small step counts, and as a small business owner, I feel a deep responsibility to cut down on waste wherever possible. After all, the less we waste, the more we save – whether it’s resources, money, or our precious environment!
One of the ways I ensure Bare Natural stays true to its eco-friendly values is by making sure that all the ingredients I source come in recycled or reusable packaging. It’s amazing how much of a difference this can make! Plus, it gives me peace of mind knowing that I’m not contributing to the mountain of single-use plastics that are so harmful to our planet.

But it’s not just about the ingredients – it’s also about what happens right here in my workshop. When I’m cutting soaps, there are always those little slivers at the ends that are too thin to sell on their own. Rather than letting those go to waste, I gather them up and put them into sisal fibre bags. These filled natural soap bags are a perfect example of how waste can be turned into something useful. Not only do they make sure nothing goes to waste, but they’re also super handy as exfoliating shower bags. A win-win if you ask me!
As we all celebrate Zero Waste Week, I want to encourage you to take small steps in your own lives to reduce waste – here’s a few achievable goals!
Bring Your Own Bags: I know we’ve all got that stash of reusable bags at home – time to put them to good use! Keep a few in your car or by the front door so you never forget them when you pop to the shops.
Ditch the Plastic Bottles: Invest in a cute reusable water bottle (I’ve got a favourite one I carry everywhere). Not only does it keep your drink cold, but it also saves a ton of plastic!
Shop Second-Hand: I love a good rummage through charity shops or online marketplaces. You can find such unique pieces, and it’s a fab way to give items a new lease on life instead of buying new.
Get Creative with Leftovers: Don’t toss those bits and bobs in the fridge! I like to mix and match leftovers to create something new and delicious. Plus, it saves money – bonus!
Compost, Compost, Compost: If you’ve got the space, starting a compost bin is a fantastic way to reduce food waste. Those veggie scraps and coffee grounds can turn into garden gold!
Opt for Refillables: From cleaning products to shampoos, so many shops now offer refill stations. I’ve started bringing my empty bottles to get refilled – less waste, and often cheaper too!
Support Sustainable Brands: Whenever possible, I make it a point to support brands that are eco-conscious and committed to reducing waste – every purchase is a vote for the planet!
Every little effort counts, and together, we can make a big difference. So here’s to doing our bit for the planet this week and beyond! Let’s keep pushing towards a future with less waste and more love for our beautiful Earth.
Until next time, take care and keep it green! 🌍
