A Closer Look: Bare Natural Soap

The humble soap bar; a staple in many homes and an item that's been around for so long that historians still debate the exact date of its origin! The ancient Babylonians were making their own soap as far back as 2800 BC, with their version being made of animal fat which was boiled with ashes. After the attempts of the Babylonians, the Egyptians used a mixture of animal and vegetable oils combined with alkaline salts to create a soap-like substance. They would sometimes add in ashes, cypress oil, and sesame oil to make it more appealing. Over the years it saw many changes as more elements and chemicals were added, including liquid soap being formulated in the 1800's.

Recently, more natural ways of making soap have seen a surge, with people wanting cleansing that is kind to skin as well as the environment. Bare’s range of soap bars have been carefully formulated to provide gentle and highly nourishing cleansing that is suitable for all skin types. What are the benefits of using a Bare Natural soap? Take a closer look…

So what do we use to make our soap bars? Most commercial and factory made soaps contain parabens, synthetic fragrances, chemicals, and other questionable ingredients. Have you ever noticed how your skin can sometimes become dry after using a traditional or liquid soap? Instead of cleaning and moisturizing it, traditional soap can actually undermine your skin's natural barrier and cause dryness and irritation!

Bare Natural soap bars on the other hand, are made with only organic and skin-loving oils, minerals, and goodness! We've taken the best quality ingredients to make a range of beautiful soap that will keep your skin healthy and your nose happy! Let’s go through some of the main ingredients used to make our popular soap bars and why…

Olive Oil: The anti-inflammatory properties of olive oil make it an ideal ingredient in soap! Eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions can all be soothed thanks to the essential fatty acids it contains. Olive oil is also rich in antioxidants that are known to combat the effects of aging and environmental damage to skin, leaving it with a healthy glowing appearance. In addition, olive oil helps to retain the skin’s natural moisture and prevent the development of dry and flaky skin.

Coconut Oil: When it comes to versatile ingredients, look no further than coconut oil! Used in many recipes here at Bare Natural, this powerhouse is full of saturated fats that make it a great cleanser for removing dirt and grease. Coconut oil also helps to soothe symptoms of skin inflammation, including swelling and redness.

Castor Oil: This oil is a natural emollient that promotes intense hydration and nourishment. It prevents dehydration from the upper surface of the skin so that it stays moisturised for longer. It also contains Omega-9 which protects the skin from drying, flaking, and chapping, and is full of anti-bacterial properties that make it perfect for cleansing.

Shea Butter: Shea butter contains a high amount of triterpene alcohols, special compounds which lets it penetrate deep into skin. It’s easily absorbed by skin and restores the skin barrier function and boosts healthy skin elasticity. It's also packed with natural humectant properties that prevent moisture loss, and replenishes the skin with healthy lipids for a healthy glow.

Essential Oils, Botanicals, and Clays: Depending on the individual soap recipe, we also add a variety of other natural elements to enhance our bars' benefits! The fragrance of essential oils have aromatherapy benefits that can relax the mind, reduce stress, and enhance mood. Botanical elements add texture, colour and fragrance to the soap, making it more visually appealing and enjoyable to use. Clay is also a great ingredient as it serves as a natural, gentle exfoliant, as well as a way to remove oils and impurities from your skin.
