A Closer Look: Bare Natural Scrubs
With the practice of scrubbing and exfoliation dating back to ancient times, history tells us that people have always used something naturally abrasive to exfoliate their skin. For example, the Egyptians used pumice stone, alabaster dust, and a mixture of sand and Aloe Vera to scrub away dust and grime from their skins! Today we continue the tradition as the benefits for skin speak for themselves.
Bare’s range of Scrubs have been carefully formulated to provide gentle and rejuvenating exfoliation that is suitable for different skin types. What are the benefits of using a Bare Natural Scrub in your skincare routine? Take a closer look…
- Improved circulation – Stimulating the surface of your skin can boost blood flow which can help give your skin a healthy glow.
- Smoother skin – Exfoliating helps get rid of dead skin cells your body hasn’t fully shed yet. This can promote a smoother, brighter, and more even complexion.
- Unclogged pores – Since it removes dead skin cells and oils that would otherwise clog your pores, facial exfoliation can help reduce acne breakouts.
- Better absorption – By removing a build up of dead skin cells and other debris, your skin can absorb other skin care products such as creams more effectively.

So what do we use to make our Scrubs? Most commercial face and body scrubs contain plastic microbeads and other very small plastic products – these can take thousands of years to break down and can pollute waterways and wildlife. Well as you know, at Bare we pride ourselves on our use of all-natural ingredients that are gentle and soothing to skin. Everything we use in our recipes is biodegradable, meaning it’s not only kind to your skin, but kind to the planet too! Let’s go through some of the ingredients used in our recipes and why…
Sugar: This is the main ingredient in all of our scrubs! Its tiny particles are perfect to brighten and polish the skin, whilst gently exfoliating, removing dead cells and excess oil. Sugar contains glycolic acid and is the perfect ingredient to rejuvenate skin and help maintain a youthful glow by balancing the skins natural oils.
Apricot Oil: Apricot oil is an amazing emollient and provides support and nutrition to skin. It’s light, absorbs into skin quickly, offers long-lasting hydration to dry skin, and helps smoothen the skin’s texture. It’s even been proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of ageing!
Oatmeal: While great for moisturising, oatmeal is also a fantastic exfoliator. Used in a scrub it is perfect at removing dead skin cells. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, meaning its mild pH can help to cool down inflamed skin and leave it soothed.

Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is deeply nourishing and helps to lock moisture into the skin. Rich in fatty acids, it supports the skin’s natural barrier, helping to prevent moisture loss and dryness. In our scrubs, coconut oil works alongside exfoliating ingredients to leave skin feeling soft, supple, and well cared for, never stripped or tight.
Vitamin E: Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from environmental stressors and supports skin repair. It’s particularly beneficial for dry or sensitive skin, helping to improve hydration and promote a healthy skin barrier. Vitamin E also contributes to smoother, more resilient skin, making it a perfect addition to our scrubs.
How Exfoliation Supports Healthy Skin
Exfoliation plays an important role in keeping skin healthy, balanced, and functioning as it should. Over time, dead skin cells naturally build up on the surface of the skin, which can lead to dullness, rough texture, congestion, and products not absorbing as effectively as they could. By gently removing these dead cells, exfoliation helps reveal fresher skin underneath and encourages natural cell turnover, a process that slows down as we age. The result is skin that looks brighter, feels smoother, and responds better to moisturisers and oils applied afterwards.
When done gently and thoughtfully, exfoliation can also help prevent blocked pores and support overall skin clarity. It allows the skin to “breathe” a little more easily and can help improve uneven texture without disrupting the skin’s natural balance. At Bare Natural, our scrubs are designed to exfoliate without being harsh (supporting the skin rather than stripping it) so that exfoliation becomes a caring step in your routine rather than an aggressive one.
How Often You Actually Need to Exfoliate
One of the most common misconceptions about exfoliation is that more is better, but in reality, over-exfoliating can do more harm than good. Skin needs time to recover and repair itself, and exfoliating too frequently can disrupt the skin barrier, leading to sensitivity, dryness, or irritation. For most skin types, exfoliating once or twice a week is more than enough to keep skin smooth and healthy without overwhelming it.
Your skin type and lifestyle also play a part. Drier or more sensitive skin will usually benefit from gentler exfoliation less often, while oilier skin may tolerate twice-weekly exfoliation comfortably. Listening to your skin is key, if it feels tight, sore, or reactive, it’s often a sign to scale back. Exfoliation should leave your skin feeling refreshed and soft, not uncomfortable. Think of it as a supportive reset, not something that needs to be done daily to be effective.
